Too Gay

At the end of summer last year, I met Brian Ammons. He was leading a small worship service I had attended at the invitation of a friend. Later, he and I would both speak at Big Tent Christianity in Raleigh. Virtually no one remembers I was there, because Brian stole the show!

Since then, Brian and I have developed an intense friendship. He is one of my closest friends, despite being one of my more recent friends. He has consistantly helped me see my ministry and my work in new eyes, but he is also someone I can grab a cup of coffee with and share my frustrations, my joys, my hopes. In so many ways, he is one of the wisest people I know. I love me some Brian Ammons.

A while back, a bunch of Baptist folk got together to write a book about what is breaking through in Baptist circles. I know a lot of the people who contributed (sometimes, my friends accuse me of being a closet Baptist. I tell them that no, I am an Ana-Baptist1). Brian submitted an article, calling for reworking how we think about sexuality and gender and faith. And, ironically, given the content, it was rejected as being “too gay”.

Here is that article, in a downloadable .pdf file. It is worth reading several times. Please like this on Facebook, share it on Twitter, email it to your friends. This needs the wider distribution it was denied by the publishers because this is the conversation we need to be having around sexuality.
