It was a whirlwind trip, going down and coming back on The City of New Orleans, leaving me just under 24 hours in the city. I know some of you will wonder what could have been worth staying for 24 hours, but believe me when I tell you that it was sooo worth it, just to get out of the city.

I got there on the third day of Jazzfest, the annual Jazz Party that goes on for days and days. I roamed the Quarter, grooved to music, drank $1 daiquiris, ate Crawfish Etouffee and red beans and rice. I woke up the next morning, had Cafe Au Lait and Beignets … I swear I could live here. Maybe they could use another bookshop in the city?

While I had promised pictures, the idiot in charge of this operation left the camera at home, so it will have to wait till the next trip (somewhat hopefully planned for the end of May).

I am leaving Memphis on the City of New Orleans at 6:50 am (those who know me know that getting up that early is a feat in and of itself..) I will be soaking up blues and jazz (and the occasional adult beverage) and will be incommunicado to the “real” world.

Pictures will be up on Monday.
