Why I love Wendy Piersall (eMom!)
Perhaps we have all read something and felt as if the author was talking directly to you, as if their heart knew what your heart was feeling. I know I have, but not often. The person who can almost always make me feel that way is the one and only eMom herself, Wendy Piersall.
I first came across Wendy by way of Steve Olson (another inspiration and the subject of an upcoming review) back at the beginning of this year when Steve and Wendy were having a showdown to see who could get more people in their My Bloglog communities. ( If you feel so inclined, you can join MY MyBlogLog comunity here ). I had just started version 1.0 of this blog, had felt around, joined the fray and joined both communities. We raised several dollars for Kiva.org and had some fun along the way. Unfortunately, I changed urls and lost the link love, but kept the memories.
Wendy is a mother of several ankle biters who writes about such diverse topics as working from home, being a self-employed mom, monetizing your blog and NLP. She has recently become something of a blog celebrity, with speaking gigs at SOBCON and BlogHer, a gig as a blogger for WomanEntrepreneur.com and who knows what all else. I mean, for crying out loud, Google has, at the time of this writing, 54,500 records with her name in it. She has only been blogging one year, for Pete’s sake. Who is this powerhouse?
Wendy is real. Some recent examples:
- She routinely uses leverage to make her do things.
- She lets us know when she is uncomfortable
- Regrets? She has had a few. But then again…
- Talks about when things do not go according to plan.
She tells it how it is, not as she wishes it was or as she hopes it will be. She routinely expresses disappointment, self-doubt, hope and faith. She feels bad that she can not keep up with the relationships the blog has brought her, and she is not afraid to let us know how she feels or the doubts she is having.
The thing I love most about Wendy is that she is accessible and transparent. I can relate to her in a way I cannot to someone like a Darren Rowse or a John Chow. I know she feels the same sort of doubts I do, the same uncertainties. I can picture her as a real person, not as a blogging icon the way I do Lorelle, for instance.
Wendy inspires me, guides me, shares her triumphs and failures with all of us daily… it is not too much to say she is incredible. As I start over with this blog, I look to her for guidance, for inspiration and for proof that anything is possible.
Thank you for being real, Wendy.

Oh my gosh, Hugh, I told you I don’t know what to say, and I still don’t!
What a kind post and I really take it to heart – this kind of thing really
makes my daykeeps me blogging day in-day out.Who would have thought that as you played along with Steve and my MyBlogLog competition would lead to this? I’m so honored that I’ve been able to provide some inspiration along the way.
I try to be transparent so that you can see your own greatness through me – I try to keep things in perspective by reminding myself and everyone else that I’m really just a mirror for all the great things that live inside of you. I’m honored to help remind you that anything is just as possible for you!
Big hugs to you!
Wendy

@Wendy – You are the greatest. Thank you for coming by and for the comments. Unfortunately, there was some sort of server issue, posts were lost and that link-love is gone forever. Thanks for the offer, though.

Well, I would feel a little strange telling everyone how much you love me (
)- so next time you have a big post you want to promote, please let me know so I can get that link love going in your direction again!

@ Steve- I mean it buddy. You guys keep me plugging.
@ Wendy- I just do not want any phone calls from eDad, wanting to know why I am professing my love for his wife all over the internet.

LOL – actually, I sent the link to eDad already – he read it and loved it! Now I just need to get him to start commenting!

I hear you, Hugh. Wendy is a rare one. I’m happy to call her a friend.
And Lorelle, I figured she would be beyond reach. But after meeting her this weekend, I fell in love with her and found her incredibly approachable and willing to help…hey, just like Wendy.

Wendy really is an inspiration. Not only does she have a good story but she does an excellent job with her blog and business.

Wow! You got her in one. You really summed her up well and the contribution Wendy makes to the web and the world, as well as the example she sets for so many, including men.
I sure wish she was my mom.

Wait! I just saw the comment about me. I must have missed in the first go through. I’m not a person. Whine, whimper and sigh. Oh, well. I’ll just have to live on my pedestal alone.

@ Lorelle -
Uhhm, well, err (blushes, turns red) I meant, uhhm, oh hell. I just meant that for us newbies, often the “gurus” seem almost monolithic.
As my ex-girlfriend once said, “It’s not you. It’s me”.
Thanks much for coming by (and for the link!)
